About the organisation
The Abbeyfield Chichester Society has over 60 years’ experience as one of West Sussex’s leading providers of home care, sheltered housing, and residential care. The Society is a Registered Charity run by a Board of professional volunteers with an appointed General Manager to oversee operations. We pride ourselves on providing secure, relaxed and homely environments within our two homes in Westgate and Market Avenue, Chichester. We offer appropriate levels of care and support to preserve the privacy, dignity and independence of each person and every resident is treated individually with their care being centred around their own needs and choices.
About the role
We are looking for someone, maybe with experience in health or social care, to join our Board of Trustees. We are a small group of volunteers and are looking to strengthen our experience in matters such as financial strategy in a non-profit environment. This would involve oversight and monitoring of our financial controls, and support with our strategic planning and development. As Abbeyfield Chichester is a small organisation with limited management experience, trustees will occasionally be asked to advise on operational matters, but our main priority is to develop a secure growth strategy for future development, as well as ensuring we remain a well-run and efficient organisation.
You will be asked to support on strategy/operations/policy matters and will be asked to commit to 3 or 4 Board meetings per year. Out of pocket expenses are paid if necessary.
Our ideal candidate
The ideal candidate would be ACA qualified, with in-depth experience of financial management in commercial organisations and of investment management.
They would also have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly explain financial matters to individuals with limited experience in this area. They would act as an interface between the wealth management company used by Abbeyfield England and our general management team.
What’s in it for you
Residential care faces many challenges at present. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with fresh ideas who is willing to bring experience and commitment, to help us develop and grow a secure, relevant and successful business going forward. We are operating at a time of increasing demand for elderly care alongside greater regulatory and financial pressure on the sector, but we believe we have much to offer, both to trustees and to the community at large.
We are a friendly and welcoming group of trustees who will appreciate the addition of greater financial acumen.
