About the organisation

This is a brilliant opportunity to be actively involved in one of London's most interesting urban spaces. The charity, Abney Park Trust, works to promote the history and ecology of Abney Park Cemetery in Stoke Newington, London, and to support the site's community engagement. The cemetery is one of the "Magnificent 7" Victorian Cemeteries, a local nature reserve and a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation. The cemetery, its historic chapel and other buildings have been subject to a transformative National Lottery Heritage Fund restoration project over the last few years. We work closely with Hackney Council who manage the day-to-day operations of the site. We achieve our aims through events and engagement. Our turnover is in the range of £50 - £60k a year - a mix of small grants and income generated through our activities. The Treasurer is part of an active volunteer board of Trustees. We employ up to three part time staff (currently one in post). This is a great opportunity to learn about community engagement and running a micro organisation at the heart of Hackney in a wonderful urban green space.
